Steinmeier reaffirms Iran's right to use peaceful nuclear energy
"We are not denying Tehran's right to use civilian atomic energy but we want to prevent Tehran from producing nuclear weapons under this disguise," said Steinmeier in his speech to the German Parliament in Berlin.
He insisted Tehran had still to prove that it had "neither a main nor a side purpose" for developing nuclear arms.
Steinmeier's remarks followed repeated reports by the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stating it had found no diversion in Tehran's civilian nuclear program.
Iran is ready to give guarantee that the nuclear program is merely for generating electricity and said that any UN sanctions will put Iran-IAEA cooperation at risk.
Iran reaffirmed commitment to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Safeguards Agreement of the IAEA.
Currently, all Iranian nuclear sites are under surveillance of the UN nuclear agency and cameras of the agency are installed over nuclear sites monitoring them.
